Closer to the main village, the beach break at St Francis Bay is a friendlier introduction to the area's surf. It works across a wider range of swell sizes than the point break, and the sandy bottom makes it a far more forgiving wave for those who are learning or getting back into it after time out of the water.
Longboarders enjoy it on smaller days when the waves are clean and slow. On bigger swell, it can produce genuine beach-break peaks worth riding, and gives experienced surfers something to work with when the point break is too big or too closed out. Most surf hire and lesson operators in St Francis Bay will point beginners towards this stretch of sand.
Once you have the feel for the beach break and are ready to step up, Cape St Francis Point Break is the obvious next challenge.
