St Francis Bay Main Beach

The main beach at St Francis Bay is the kind of place that defines a proper seaside holiday: safe water, a wide stretch of clean sand, enough wind in the afternoon for bodyboarding, and a view out to sea that puts the rest of the day in perspective. It is the heart of the village's beach life and the natural place to spend a morning or afternoon when the surf conditions at the point are not cooperating.

The swimming is genuinely safe here. The bay is sheltered enough that the water stays calm for most of the season, making it comfortable for children and less confident swimmers. The beach holds Blue Flag status, which means water quality is monitored and the facilities are kept up.

Early mornings, before the beach fills up and before the afternoon south-easter builds, are worth the effort. A walk along the waterline with the sun still low is a good way to start any day at Milkwood Way. When you are ready for something to eat, Sand Dunes is conveniently close. Afterwards, a paddle on the canals rounds out a full morning well.

Practical Blue Flag beach — water quality monitored, facilities maintained. Sheltered and generally calm. Busiest over December school holidays and Easter. Parking at the main beach area.
